Who was martin luther king jr.
Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was a baptist minister from Atlanta, Georgia. Born January 15th, 1929, King was an activist, humanitarian, and leader in the Civil Rights Movement. Due to his involvement in the civil rights movement, King was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 at the age of 39. King was part of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) which influenced the civil rights movement greatly. As a teenager, King attended Booker T. Washington High School and was well known for is ability to publicly speak and his good performance on the debate team. King skipped 9th and 12th grade and at age 15 tested into the Morehouse college. King graduated Morehouse with a bachelor of arts in sociology and then proceeded to enter the Crozer Theological Seminary to become a minister. King also attended Boston University and there he received his PhD.
MLK and the civil rights movment
King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He lead the Montgomery bus boycotts, helped found the SCLC, lead non-violent protests and marches such as the March on Washington, and much more. King strongly supported a non-violent approach during the civil rights movement.
